WHO IS YOUTHINBC.COM FOR?
It’s for youth aged 25 and under in BC who need a safe, respectful and inclusive place to access support and information, or just need someone to listen without judgment. We have never turned anyone away based on their age, and we encourage and welcome all youth to chat in, no matter their background, race, ability, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, lifestyle, or culture. It’s also for parents and/or professionals who are looking for topic-specific information and resources for various youth-related issues.
WHAT CAN I CHAT ABOUT?
People chat about lots of different things! Whether it’s about suicide, sexuality, depression, anxiety, stress, relationship conflicts, or anything else that’s bothering you, we’re here to listen. Nothing is too big or too small.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT?
It’s important to note that we don’t give advice. Because honestly, how could we? We are just meeting now. We prioritize active listening and emotional support while empowering you to explore your feelings, thoughts, and potential solutions on your own terms. We can also help you to explore referrals to professional services and organizations that can be of help.
WILL MY CHAT BE PRIVATE?
Before starting a chat, you'll be asked to fill out a short survey with basic information like your age, gender, and location. This helps us gather statistics for research and funding purposes. Rest assured, your information and chats are kept private and protected. However, there are certain circumstances where we may need to involve emergency services. This includes situations where you explicitly request an ambulance or police, if we believe someone's life is in immediate danger, or if there are concerns of child abuse. In such cases, we prioritize your safety and well-being. We always aim to work together with you to create safety.
